New €12.135 million action for home energy upgrades in Western Macedonia

Grants of up to 100% for heat-pump installation – Applications from 28 September to 23 November 2026

The Region of Western Macedonia informs residents about the new Action “Installation of Heat Pumps for Heating / Cooling in Western Macedonia”, implemented under the Just Transition Programme, with a total budget of €12.135 million financed by the Just Transition Fund. Of this amount, €11.677 million concerns the main project for heat-pump replacement and additional energy-efficiency improvements.

The beneficiary of the Action is the Regional Development Fund of Western Macedonia.

This is a significant intervention for households in Western Macedonia, aiming to reduce energy costs, gradually reduce homes’ dependence on oil and other conventional fuels, and improve the overall energy performance of buildings.

What is funded

The Action’s main focus is replacing the existing heating system with a heat pump, while also allowing beneficiaries to undertake additional energy-efficiency improvements.

Specifically, it provides for:

  • mandatory installation of an air-to-water or ground-source heat pump,
  • optional provision of domestic hot water (DHW),
  • optional home thermal-insulation improvements,
  • optional installation of a photovoltaic system for self-generation, with the possibility of installing an electricity storage system.

Grant rates depend on the beneficiary’s income category and the type of intervention, and may reach 100% for interventions involving the heat pump, domestic hot water and thermal insulation.

Particular attention is given to lower-income households and vulnerable social groups. The assessment of applications takes into account, among other factors, income per family member, single-parent status, the presence of a family member with a disability, and large-family status.

Eligible intervention budget of up to €22,500

The maximum eligible budget for energy-efficiency interventions is €22,500 per application.

Subject to the conditions of the Guide, other necessary expenses may also be covered, such as energy inspections, the Electronic Building Identity where required, the Technical Adviser’s fee, and necessary permits or studies.

Who can participate

Individuals holding a property right in an eligible home may participate: a detached house or apartment used as a primary residence and meeting the conditions of the Guide.

The Action covers eligible areas of the Region of Western Macedonia, subject to the specific geographical restrictions set out in the Guide concerning district-heating networks, natural-gas networks and areas with separate energy-upgrade planning.

Before beginning to prepare their application, interested residents are therefore asked to consult the Action’s Guide carefully and confirm the eligibility of both the home and the area where it is located.

Online applications from 28 September 2026

Funding applications will be submitted exclusively online from 28 September 2026 until 23 November 2026, through the Action’s official online portal:

https://antliesthermotitaspta.gov.gr/ (which will be available from 28 September)

Support from a Technical Adviser who is an engineer is mandatory for submitting an application and monitoring the project, in accordance with the specific conditions of the Guide.

An Information Help Desk also supports interested residents by providing clarification on application submission, approval, implementation of interventions, project certification and payment of incentives.

The Region of Western Macedonia invites interested residents to familiarise themselves with the conditions of the Action and complete the necessary preparations for submitting their application in good time.
