The EPICAH project funded by the INTERREG EUROPE Program for an additional year of cooperation at the European cross-border level, had as its main objective the improvement of policy tools for the cross-border protection and development of natural and cultural heritage, through the exchange of experiences and good practices between partners from 8 countries of the European Union, with significant experience in the development of cross-border cooperation strategies, projects and actions.
In particular, in the period from September 2021 and for one year, the partners cooperated in the adaptation of their cross-border policies in the environment and in tourism, after the dramatic effects of the pandemic, which greatly limited cooperation, in particular of course the sustainable tourism development around the borders with neighboring countries.
The economic and social problems that arose, the initiatives taken to mitigate them, as well as the necessary adjustments to the structural programs of the cross-border regions were also discussed.
Surveys, studies, assessments and partner exchanges have been completed and a joint report in English has been prepared and made available to the relevant management and policy authorities for use in view of the expected funding from 2023 onwards.
