Good practices for the protection and management of waterways – particularities and needs at the level of the Region of Western Macedonia

The aim of the report is to present the available good practices for the protection and management of waterways at the level of the Western Macedonia Region, which can contribute to their optimal economic and social utilization by local communities.
The project “European Waterways Improvement Plan (ERCIP)” is implemented in 5 different countries of Europe and by 9 different bodies that are related either to the management and protection of water resources, or within their administrative boundaries there is a significant water potential, the management of which is an important parameter for the development of the wider region.

• ERCIP Waterway Protection and Management Good Practices

The area studied as part of the implementation of the project by the Municipality of Servia-Velventos includes the section of the Aliakmonas river located within the boundaries of the Municipality of Servia-Velventos from the bridge of Rymni to the dam of Hilarion. The area studied as part of the implementation of the project by the Region of Western Macedonia includes a section of the Venetian river that passes through the traditional settlement of Dotsikos.
