Representatives of all partners participating in EPICAH, “Effectiveness of policy instruments for cross-border advancement of heritage”, representatives of the Stakeholder Network and a large number of local organisations in Western Macedonia took part in significant tourism-focused activities held on 4 & 5 June in Kastoria and Prespes.
The interregional EPICAH project, funded by INTERREG EUROPE, primarily aims to improve policy instruments for the cross-border protection and development of natural and cultural heritage through an exchange of experiences and good practices among partners with substantial experience of developing cross-border cooperation strategies, projects and actions.
During the two-day project activities, representatives from eight countries, working with members of the Western Macedonia Stakeholder Network, visited sites in Kastoria’s old town and the Prespes lakes area to observe, study and assess successful good practices. Developed under co-funded regional and/or cross-border projects, these practices remain 100% sustainable and usable and have already created a new approach to tourism in the Region of Western Macedonia.
Mutual learning and work among partners and stakeholders implementing EPICAH activities contributes substantially to developing new types of actions for managing their natural and cultural heritage. This will, among other benefits, strengthen tourism in the intervention areas.
