Study visits to Prespes under EPICAH

As part of the interregional EPICAH project funded by INTERREG EUROPE, a study visit examining good practices in the Prespes area was organised on Wednesday, 7 June 2018, under the auspices of the Regional Development Fund of Western Macedonia.

The visit’s main objective was to present policy instruments and good practices applied in the cross-border Prespes area to protect and develop its natural and cultural assets.

On arrival in the village of Mikrolimni, participants were welcomed by the Mayor of Prespes, Mr Panagiotis Paschalidis, who presented the Municipality’s initiatives and policies for promoting, enhancing and protecting Prespes’ unique natural ecosystem.

Staff from the Municipality of Prespes, the Prespes National Park Management Body and the Prespes Florina Cultural Events Organisation then guided visitors around the island of Agios Achilleios and the traditional watermill at Agios Germanos, Prespes. The programme included walks and guided tours led by municipal staff.

The visit concluded with a joint working meeting of the project’s Expert Group and Steering Committee to review and assess the study visits.
