The Western Macedonia Regional Development Fund, project partner GOAL nZEB’s «Greece cOllaborates with Albania for nZEBs» and in the context of the implementation of his actions, he implemented the Monday 16 May 2022, Conference titled “Renewable Energy Production and Management – the role of Energy Communities”.
The objective of the conference was to analyze the role and purpose of Energy Communities in order for organizations and individuals to become self-producers of energy through the participatory process, as well as to emphasize accompanying energy saving and management actions.
The meeting was addressed by Mr Konstantinos Patlitjianas, project manager on his behalf Lead Beneficiary, Center for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES). The work of the Conference was attended live by Ms Kyriakidou Kalliopis, President of the Regional Council of Western Macedonia and Mr Manos Thomas, Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection, Climate Change Impacts, Environment and Infrastructure, who also addressed a greeting.
About 40 people participated in the meeting, in person and online, including the representative of Network of Non-Profit Energy Communities of Western Macedonia “Ofelos”, the representative and Board Member of the Panhellenic Federation of Electricity Producers’ Associations. of PV Energy (P.O.S.P.H.E.F.), the Vice-Regional Governor of Fair Development Transition, the Vice-Regional Governor of Grevena, officials of EKETA, private individuals and others.
The conference highlighted the important role that energy communities (En. Co.) are called to play, especially today where the energy crisis is deepening more and more. An analysis was made of the current situation of the energy communities in Greece, with an emphasis on the region of Western Macedonia, where the ENERGY COMMUNITY OF WESTERN MACEDONIA LIMITED LIABILITY.
The following topics were discussed at the conference:
O Dr. Vasilios Machiras and Dimitrios Mavromatides, Support Structure RIS RDF of Western Macedonia they presented the innovation ecosystem of the region with special reference to the study repository and the research and innovation portal. Also, a connection was made with the participatory process in En. Co. through the business discovery workshops and the involvement of the quadruple helix of the innovation system.
Dr. Kon/nos Patlitzianas, Chemical Engineer, KAPE, referred to the goals of the GOAL – nZEBs project which focuses on cross-border actions and Tools which can help to implement investments in order to achieve the dissemination of the concept of almost zero energy buildings (NZEB). The role of energy communities in the context of promoting the social and solidarity economy was additionally noted. Particular emphasis was placed on Online Platform https://www.ourgoal.eu/el/ in which tools of a diagnostic nature are presented, in order to analyse, approach, capitalize and design energy upgrading projects of buildings, based on the typologies of buildings in the Cross-Border region of Greece – Albania.
Ms Kalliopi Kyriakidou, President of the Regional Council of Western Macedonia was mentioned in Western Macedonia, where the Energy Community of Western Macedonia has already been established between local government bodies such as the 13 Municipalities, the University of Western Macedonia and the Region.

Special reference was also made to the connection conditions of DEDDIE, which do not ensure the interconnection of the production and distribution of electricity.
Ms Anastasia Benou, Mechanical Engineer, Head of the Geothermal Department KOPE referred to definitions of geothermal systems as well as examples and applications of geothermal projects in the industrial and hotel sector.
