To monitor Strategic Research and Innovation through Smart Specialization (RIS3) in the Region of Western Macedonia (PDM) and with a view to the sustainable development of PDM, the operation of the RIS / RDF Support Structure of Western Macedonia began in September 2020, at the initiative of the Regional Authority of Western Macedonia.
The main operating purpose of the Western Macedonia RIS / RDF Support Structure is to support the competitiveness, innovation and extroversion of businesses in the sectors designated as RIS priority sectors3, applying the RIS philosophy3.
To achieve this goal, the RIS Support Structure takes actions aimed at connecting businesses with higher education and research institutions, in order to increase the competitiveness of businesses through the use of research results and business knowledge. Key parts of the interconnection process are the authorities of the local self-government as well as representatives of the PDM civil society.
The RIS priority sectors3 of PDM are: Agri-Food, Fur, Environment/Energy and Tourism.
The Western Macedonia RIS / RDF Support Structure operates within the framework of the Action “Creation of Structures to support competitiveness, innovation and business extroversion” of the Operational Program “Western Macedonia 2014-2020”, a project implemented by the Regional Development Fund of Western Macedonia.
